Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two cupcake pans with liners.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together cake flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add softened butter to the dry ingredients; mix on medium speed until crumbly.
  4. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, egg yolk, and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Gradually add half of the wet mixture to the dry ingredients; mix for 1–2 minutes until light and smooth.
  6. Add remaining wet ingredients; mix until fully combined.
  7. Fill cupcake liners about two-thirds full with batter.
  8. Bake at 375°F for 5 minutes; reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 10–12 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
