- Increase to medium heat and cook until reaching 244°F (softball stage).
- Remove from heat, stir in baking soda, then add butter and vanilla; mix until smooth.
- Allow the mixture to rest for 20 minutes before stirring in the chopped nuts.
- Pour into the prepared dish and let cool for 1-2 hours before slicing into squares.
